«كان الصَّحابةُ رَضيَ اللهُ عنهم حَريصينَ على اتِّباعِ هَدْيِ النبيِّ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ في كلِّ شَيءٍ ونَقْلِه لمَن بعْدَهم، لا سيَّما الصَّلاةِ التي هي عِمادُ الدِّينِ.وفي هذا الحديثِ يُوضِّح مَالِكُ بنُ الحُوَيْرِثِ رَضيَ اللهُ عنه لأصحابِه كَيفِيَّةَ صَلاةِ النبيِّ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ، فقال لهم: ألَا أُرِيكُم كيف كانتْ صَلاتُه صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ؟ وكان ذلك في غَيرِ وَقتِ الصَّلاةِ المكتوبةِ، فكانت صَلاتُه صَلاةَ تَطوُّعٍ بقَصْدِ التَّعليمِ، ليسَتْ بفَرْضٍ ولا نافلةٍ»
